If you are like many people the dream of being an entrepreneur is so real you can almost taste it. You can see yourself enjoying the freedom that comes from having no boss not to mention the loads of cash you will enjoy.
Hold the phone, before you are booking a flight to Maui you need to consider one thing very carefully and ask this question: Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Are you cut out to be fabulously wealthy?
To get a better idea of where you stand consider the following five characteristics. Do you or Can you:
-Can you see something through even when the results are a long time coming? Your first day as a business owner you will be ecstatic. You may even run on the rush for a few days or even weeks.
Then reality sinks in and you are working just as many hours as you did for your boss simply trying to keep the business afloat and there is no excitement left. Perhaps the worst part of all is the fact that you are not seeing anything in the way of results. That means there is very little to motivate you and move your business forward.
Can I ask you something? How important is instant gratification? Can you move forward without immediate pay off? It is hard but if you can do it being an entrepreneur may be in your blood.
-Lose the failing idea? Your time is vital as is your energy and when you have invested heavily in a concept it can feel like your baby. For all intents and purposes it is your brain child.
When a bad idea is dragging your ship down with all its cargo what do you do? Sometimes ideas simply do not work out and you must turn loose. Are you prepared to do what is necessary for the good of the whole? If you can lay your love for the idea down you may be a great entrepreneur.
-Do you trust your instincts? Doubt is going to flow from every angle, people just cannot help themselves. Friends and family may ridicule you and if you take in their comments you have very little chance of succeeding.
If you have confidence in your capabilities and your proposal then you might have the stuff to be an entrepreneur.
-Have a good idea of the value of your product or service? The number one problem with new business owners is in the beginning they will sweat blood and tears for very little money. Many times this is a result of faulty thinking. The new entrepreneur knows they would not or could not afford to pay a specific amount for the product and therefore they price it too low.
You have to keep in mind that you are not the customer or the market. If your product or service has value to your customers then you should reap the benefit of that value. Trust your customers to let you know when the price is too high.
If the customers are not out for blood about your prices relax and enjoy business. You have valued your product or service correctly and are on the way to being a great entrepreneur.
-Solve difficulties? Last but not least, do you offer something that solves a problem?
When you are an entrepreneur problem solving must be your forte. The proverbial buck must stop with you in this business. There is no higher-level officer to do it for you. It will be all on your shoulders to find the problem and then solve it.
The biggest reason you really need to have good problem solving skills is your customers. When you have a knack for solving problems you will never be short on customers. In fact you will be one of the greatest entrepreneurs.
