A tiny change in presentation or different phrase can mark the difference between a highly successful and popular ad and an ad that fails miserably.

A tiny change in presentation or different phrase can mark the difference between a highly successful and popular ad and an ad that fails miserably.

The difference between a successful online ad and one that fails is very small. Marketers are still struggling to find a formula that works. One way they are finding out more is through split testing.

Split testing is a sales tactic that tests two different sales pages, keywords, PPC copy and other online sales tools using an equal number of impressions/views to see which one converts more effectively. The technique is one of the few approaches a marketer can take in testing out the success of various ads.

For example, suppose you have two ads with minor differences. This could include a different color or small phrase. You want to test the two, which is known as split testing. You run the test for a few days.

Split testing must last for at least a few days. The concept is to see which one accumulates more clicks, especially setting a milestone at 40 to 50 clicks. If for example, the ?Money Back Guarantee? ad wins, then you now know that the simple phrase may make a small difference. Now you must gauge where you should put the phrase. How about the beginning of your article? How about the end? Sounds like it?s time for another split test.

Split testing is also used for newsletters, sales copy, and many other forms of writing that promote sales. A lot of marketers use software to help rotate their sales pages, and examine which technique works the most effectively.

Internet marketing is still in its early stages and still a work of art. Marketers are doing more to understand the business, but they are still a ways from landing on any one true formula. Split testing is one of the most precise types of techniques they have at their disposal.

Marketers who incorporate split testing find more conversions than companies that do not. It?s proven to help your sales, so it comes at no surprise that more and more marketers are using this simple approach.

Most PPC campaigns only have a limited number of keywords that actually convert into sales. Weeding out any non-converting keywords is an important part of optimizing your campaigns and getting them profitable. So how do you figure out which keywords are converting for you? That is where Prosper202 comes in.

Prosper202 was developed by Wes Mahler of Tracking202, and is free tracking script that offers real-time tracking of your PPC campaigns. You can download the script from their website, and you will need to host it on your own web server. However, it is recommended that if you are planning on sending a large amount of clicks through the script that you make sure and put it on its own dedicated server.

Once you have installed the script on your server, you will want to add a campaign into the system. In the setup section you will see the list of steps necessary to track your campaign. The first thing to do is to enter in any of your PPC Accounts (Adwords, Yahoo, MSN) and then put in any CPA networks you have joined. (Convert2Media, AmpedMedia, etc).

Next, you will want to enter in the campaign info for the offer or product you are trying to promote. The important part here is the affiliate url. You can get this by logging into the CPA network itself and grabbing the link from the offer page. It is important to make sure the subid parameter is included, as it is different for each CPA network.

The campaign page also has the options to rotate urls and cloak your links. Rotating urls can be very useful as it allows you to test multiple offers and figure out which ones convert the best. Cloaking links is necessary because you never want to show your AM your traffic sources. When someone clicks on your cloaked link, the referrer will display as the domain you have installed Prosper202 on and not your actual landing page.

If you are using a landing page, then you will need to put it in to the system as well. Once you do that, Prosper202 will give a snippet of javascript code that you will need to insert into the bottom of your page. You will also get a url that you need to use everywhere you have a link to your offer. This is needed so the script can track everything correctly.

Once this is all setup, you can retrieve the links you need to use. These will be input into the PPC platform that you are using. Make sure to add in the extra keyword parameter if your PPC platform requires it. This will enable Prosper202 to track the keyword associated with a particular click.

An optional step is to setup your global tracking pixel. You will need to give this to your Affiliate Manager to place on your offer’s confirmation page. Whenever someone clicks on one of your links and makes a lead or sale, your pixel will fire and Prosper202 will record it the sale in your stats. If you do not do this, then you will have to manually upload the converting subids from your affiliate network into Prosper202 yourself.

Once you have done this several times, you will find that adding campaigns to Prosper202 is quite easy. Now you will be able to track your clicks and leads in real-time and look at all the spiffy charts and graphs. You will now be able to see exactly which keywords are profitable and which are not. With this information in hand, you can further optimize your campaign and turn it into a profitable money maker.

Finding profitable keywords is the key to a money-making PPC campaign. To find these types of keywords, you will need to use some sort of PPC tracking script. In this article, we will discuss a script called Prosper202.

Prosper202 was developed by Wes Mahler of Tracking202, and is free tracking script that offers real-time tracking of your PPC campaigns. You can download the script from their website, and you will need to host it on your own web server. However, it is recommended that if you are planning on sending a large amount of clicks through the script that you make sure and install it on its own dedicated server.

Once you have everything installed, you will first want to setup your campaigns. Under the setup tab, there is a submenu that shows the different setup steps. You will first need to add in your PPC accounts (ie. Google Adwords, MSN Adcenter, etc) and then input any affiliate networks you are using (Hydra, NeverblueAds, etc).

Next, you will want to add in the necessary info for the particular offer you are planning to send traffic to. The important step here is to input the correct affiliate url. You can get this from the CPA network you are currently using. Just make sure to include the subid parameter in the url so Prosper202 can pass along the subids correctly.

You will also have the options to rotate and cloak your links. If you only want to send traffic to a single offer, you can ignore the rotate option, but this is useful for testing the conversion rates between multiple similar offers. Cloaking your links makes it so your Affiliate Manager will be unable to see where your traffic is coming from and I would suggest you use this to protect your traffic sources.

If you are using a landing page, then you will need to put it in to the system as well. Once you do that, Prosper202 will give a snippet of javascript code that you will need to insert into the bottom of your page. You will also get a url that you need to use everywhere you have a link to your offer. This is needed so the script can track everything properly.

Finally the last required step is to get your link. This is what you will input into your PPC account when setting up your campaign. Depending on the PPC platform you are using, you also may need to add an extra parameter to dynamically track the keyword associated with each click.

If you want to have real-time tracking of the leads you receive, you will also need to email the global tracking pixel that Prosper202 gives you to your affiliate manager. They should install it on the offer’s confirmation page and whenever you get a lead, the pixel will fire and it will notify Prosper and update the stats. This is an optional step, but if you don’t do this you will have to manually enter in the converting subids into prosper202 yourself.

Once you have gotten everything setup, Prosper202 will handle the rest. You can see your clicks and leads in real-time using the Spy View, and you can see all the individual stats for each campaign in the overview page. Now you can figure out exactly which keywords are leading to sales and which ones are not. By having this info at your fingertips, you can take out those non converting keywords and start making your PPC campaign profitable.
